  • Story Text: INTRO: Just in time for the holidays, Sotheby's will be auctioning Hollywood and Rock and Roll memorabilia at the weekend -- with items ranging from Christopher Reeve's Superman cape to Beatles and Madonna mementos.

    Highlights of Sotheby's annual collector carousel sale on Saturday (December 20) include actor Christopher Reeve's Superman cape from the 1978 movie, and costumes and props from hundreds of classic and recent movies, including Gone with the Wind, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Wizard of Oz, Star Trek II, and Home Alone II.

    Dana Hawkes, director of collectibles for Sotheby's said this sale was different from others because of its timing and subject matter.

    "The clientele that will be coming in are Christmas shoppers," she said. "People want things sent overnight so they'll arrive by December 25, that's what's different this time of the year," Hawkes said.

    Sotheby's will auction the Hollywood memorabilia Saturday morning (December 20) and Rock and Roll memorablia, on Saturday afternoon. The Rock and Roll mementos include a dress worn by Madonna on her "Who's that Girl" tour as well as plenty of Beatles' and Doors material.
