NEWS CONFERENCE WITH MILAN BAROS AND LIVERPOOL MANAGER RAFAEL BENITEZ 9. (SOUNDBITE)(ENGLISH) BAROS SAYS: No I can't remember properly what happened there because I was just four years old. But I heard some stories and I read some stories so of course it is very sad what happened but I think that since the game starts everyone just wants the three points and it is the same for Liverpool and Juventus. So of course the Juventus supporters will be welcome and I think everyone just will be thinking about that before the game but I think since the game starts it is just the game of football. 10. NEWS CONFERENCE 11. (SOUNDBITE)(ENGLISH) BAROS SAYS: We played quite well in Champions League so far. Every win you get more confidence so that's normal. Now we are just one point behind Everton and of course the team is confident and as I said we have to play two games against Juventus and we want to go through and hopefully we will. 10. (SOUNDBITE)(ENGLISH) BENITEZ SAYS: He said, he is playing better than me, because in the end some players in the region they are hearing people talking about the situation but they are thinking about football and the best thing you can do for the families and people is to play as well as possible to win if it is possible and at the end of the game you can talk about football and not about problems - it's the best thing. 11. PHOTOGRAPHER 12. (SOUNDBITE)(ENGLISH) BENITEZ SAYS: We all have the same idea. It is to think about the opportunity to become closer and to talk about football all the time - that is the idea of all the people around the club. They have a lot of Italian players or a lot of players who have experience in the Italian League and they know the tactics of the system, the idea of the manager, and you are talking about a new manager, a new team with different ideas, another league. I think it's difference, we will try. I would like to play with the same consistency as Juventus because they are always a strong team. In recent times, play very well, sometimes not so well. 13. Rafael Benitez says players should not linger too
long on the Heysel tragedy when his Liverpool side face
Juventus in the Champions League quarter-final, first leg
at Anfield on Tuesday (April 4).
Juventus won the 1985 European Cup final 1-0 but the
match was totally overshadowed when 39 mostly Italian fans
perished after a wall collapsed following fighting among
rival supporters.
The horror of that night in Brussels has left a scar on
the conscience of the English club and Tuesday's Champions
League quarter-final first leg offers the first chance in
20 years for Liverpool's famous Kop end to pay their
respects.
With Italy in mourning following the death of Pope John
Paul the Juventus players will have added cause for
solemnity and whether the atmosphere dilutes the intensity
of a hugely important match remains to be seen.
Striker Milan Baros said the players from both sides
must not get distracted by the occasion.
"I can't remember properly what happened there because
I was just four years old. But I heard some stories and I
read some stories so of course it is very sad what
happened," the Czech international told reporters. But he
added that the players would be intent on scoring three
points for their team and would be concentrating on the
football.
"Of course the Juventus supporters will be welcome and
I think everyone just will be thinking about that before
the game but I think since the game starts it is just the
game of football."
Baros will be Liverpool's sole recognised striker
against Juventus as Fernando Morientes is ineligible and
Djibril Cisse, Florent Sinama Pongolle and Neil Mellor are
all injured.
Coach Benitez said he believed the best way to respect
those who died in the tragedy would be by providing an
entertaining spectacle on the pitch.
"The best thing you can do for the families and people
is to play as well as possible to win if it is possible and
at the end of the game you can talk about football and not
about problems - it's the best thing," said the Spaniard,
who took over at Anfield last year after a successful spell
with Valencia.
"We all have the same idea. It is to think about the
opportunity to become closer and to talk about football all
the time - that is the idea of all the people around the
club," he said.
Goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek is expected to shrug off a groin
problem in time to play and Finnish defender Sami Hyypia is
in line for a recall.
With experienced German Dietmar Hamann still injured
Liverpool will depend even more than usual on England
midfielder Steve Gerrard as they seek to score at least
once and keep a clean sheet.
Probable teams:
Liverpool: 1-Jerzy Dudek; 3-Steve Finnan, 4-Sami
Hyypia, 21-Djimi Traore, 23-Jamie Carragher; 11-Vladimir
Smicer, 8-Steven Gerrard, 25-Igor Biscan, 6-John Arne
Riise; 5-Milan Baros, 10-Luis Garcia.
Juventus: 1-Gianluigi Buffon; 27-Jonathan Zebina,
28-Fabio Cannavaro, 21-Lilian Thuram, 19-Gianluca
Zambrotta; 16-Mauro Camoranesi, 8-Emerson, 20-Manuele
Blasi, 11-Pavel Nedved; 10-Alessandro Del Piero, 9-Zlatan
Ibrahimovic.
