One soldier was slightly wounded. We fired back at the sources of those fire points that we have identified. That is another example of the entire northern system being directed and pushed and financed by the Iranians, by the Syrians. It's another example that the Lebanese government is doing nothing about its responsibility according to 425 resolution which Israel fulfilled absolutely. We talked about it in the earlier days, and unfortunately we got another example today. And even though we would like to see stability in this area, if those kinds of attacks will happen again and if this trend, I should say of potential escalation, will not stop, at the end of it, I guess that we will have to retaliate and that will be a very severe one." 1.30 3. - Story Text: Israel strikes back at Hizbollah targets and vows to respond
with severity to further attacks.
Hizbollah, a Lebanese guerrilla group backed by
Syria and Iran, fired rockets and artillery rounds at
Israeli army positions in a disputed area of the
Israel-Lebanon border on Monday (October 27). Israel hit
back with two air strikes.
Hizbollah said it had fired the rockets and mortar
rounds at Israeli posts in the Shebaa Farms area near the
border between Lebanon, Israel and the Golan Heights. The
attack took place at 15:20 (local time).
Hizbollah targeted three positions inside the occupied
farms, namely Raysat Al Alam, Al Sama'a and Ranta.
Following the attacks, Hizbollah declared that the
operations were successful and had attained the intended
targets, causing damage.
Tensions have been high since Israel struck what it
said was a training camp for Palestinian militants in Syria
three weeks ago in the deepest attack on its neighbour in
the past 30 years.
Israel blamed the latest exchange of fire on Syria and
Iran.
Commander of Israel's army in the north, Major-General
Benny Ganz, said Israel would retaliate with severity to
more attacks.
"Today in the afternoon, Hizbollah once again has shot
anti-tank ammunition and missiles, accompanied by artillery
shells, to the Mount Har Dov area. One soldier was slightly
wounded. We fired back at the sources of those fire points
that we have identified. That is another example of the
entire northern system being directed and pushed and
financed by the Iranians, by the Syrians. It's another
example that the Lebanese government is doing nothing about
its responsibility according to 425 resolution which Israel
fulfilled absolutely. We talked about it in the earlier
days, and unfortunately we got another example today. And
even though we would like to see stability in this area, if
those kinds of attacks will happen again and this trend, I
should say of potential escalation, will not stop, at the
end of it, I guess that we will have to retaliate and that
will be a very severe one," Ganz said.
Hizbollah last attacked Israeli posts in Shebaa Farms
in August in apparent response to the killing of one of the
group's members in a car bomb -- an attack it blamed on the
Jewish state.
Before that, Hizbollah had not launched an attack in
the Shebaa Farms for months. Hizbollah did not give any
more details with regards to the reasons behind the timing
of the attack.
