- Story Text: One Palestinian killed in car explosion in Gaza
Strip.
A senior leader of Hamas's military wing was
killed in an Israeli missile strike on his car in the Gaza
Strip on Sunday, (September 19, 2004) Palestinian witnesses said.
They said the missile was apparently fired by an
Israeli airforce drone hovering overhead Gaza City. The
missile tore through a car carrying a top leader in Hamas's
Izz-el-Deen al-Qassam brigades, killing him and wounding
several passersby.
Several witnesses earlier reported seeing a flash of
light before the explosion. The incident took place in an
Islamic militant stronghold in Gaza City.
Hamas, sworn to Israel's destruction, is the main
militant group spearheading a campaign of suicide bombings
against Israelis during a nearly four-year-old Palestinian
uprising.
