- Story Text: German police said that at least three people died when a small plane crashed in Southern Hesse near Frankfurt on Wednesday (March 1) evening.
The Cessna plane was on approach to the small airport in Egelsbach when it suddenly disappeared from the radar screen, said a police spokesperson in Offenbach.
The plane crashed near the auto highway 661 near Frankfurt and burst into flames.
A police spokesman in Offenbach, Henry Faltin, confirmed that three people had died.
"As far as we know at the moment, a plane crashed at around 7 o'clock in the evening in the woodland near Egelsbach. The first investigation tells us that it was a Cessna seating twelve, which came from Linz in Austria with destination Egelsbach. According to our investigation there were five people on board. We have found three bodies so far."
It is be believed that there were two pilots and four passengers on the plane.
"We have to wait for the rescue operation to know more about the other people on board," Faltin told Reuters.
