- Story Text: A train crash in Germany in the early hours of Friday (April 13) left three people dead and injured 13 others, according to local police who said that seven passengers were seriously injured.
"Last night around 1 a.m., a regional train hit a service train with a digger," rail police spokesman Karsten Eberhardt told reporters at the crash site.
Eberhardt added that the cause of the accident near the southern town of Muehlheim in the state of Hesse was still unknown.
"Experts are now analysing the accident for any clues and they are looking for any evidence which could help in the investigation," said Eberhardt.
According to a written police statement, 35 passengers were on board the train which was heading from Frankfurt to Hanau.
Muehlheim, where the accident happened, is located some 16 kilometres east of Germany's financial capital Frankfurt. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
