- Story Text: P. Diddy, formerly known as Puff Daddy, threw a record release party on Wednesday in New York City to celebrate the release of his new CD, "P.Diddy and the Bad Boy Family - The Saga Continues."
One of the world's most notorious musicians and entrepreneurs, P. Diddy, played host to a number of celebrities at one of New York's hottest new restaurants TAO, on Wednesday (September 5). The party was to celebrate the release of his new CD and brought out a number of celebrities.
P. Diddy also known as Sean "Puffy" Combs and Puff Daddy is a hugely successful hip-hop artist and noted producer for artists including TLC and Mary J. Blige. Combs was greeted warmly at the party by famed founder of Def Jam Records and the creator of FUBU clothing, Russell Simons and his lovely wife, Kamora.
P. Diddy certainly looks up to Simmons as a role model having become a record producer and starting up his own line of clothing, Sean Jean. He has excelled in business, with his multi-million dollar Bad Boy Entertainment empire establishing Combs as one of the leading black music entrepreneurs of the late 90s. He is known for being a hard worker and can't deny it, "Yeah, it definitely takes a lot hard work and a lot hard hours and that's what I'm trying to do, I'm always working, I got a great team of artists around me."
Combs latest CD, "P. Diddy and the Bad Boy Family - The Saga Continues" did the unthinkable back in July and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts, selling 185,759 copies. His latest music video, "Bad Boy for Life" has been in constant rotation on MTV in the U.S. since just after the release of the CD. When asked what keeps him going Combs replied, "Just having fun, not stopping my persistence and my fans, the fans being there for me and making good music for people to dance to."
Two of the most famous artists of today, Kevin and Hewie of "The Back Street Boys," were on hand to celebrate Puffy's CD release and promote their own album and tour. When asked about the recent cancellation of a few of their tour dates, Kevin replied, "The break was for AJ to take a little time and attend to his soul and himself, he's going through some depression and as you know, I'm sure you know he had a little bit of an alcohol problem so he went through therapy and he's doing good he's taking it day by day one step at a time." The Back Street boys have continued their tour that will take them through the U.S. until October 20th. After a brief time off, the band is set to do a 10 day tour through Japan.
Blu Cantrell has had the number one song on the billboard charts for the last three weeks and is loving it, "Hey man I always feel good on the inside , it's definitely a good feeling, it's a ladies song and I'm glad everyone likes it, it's the anthem of the summer man, it's a great song."
Other celebrities on hand for the party included, supermodel, Heidi Klum, hip hop star, Foxey Brown, superstar rapper and actor, Ice-T and one of the most famous of all members of any boy band ever, Lance of N'Synch. As for P. Diddy, he recently linked up with veteran rocker David Bowie to record a remake of Bowie's 1985 track "This Is Not America." The song will be featured on the Warner Bros.
soundtrack to the upcoming film "Training Day." set to hit theatres on September 21, while the soundtrack will be released Sept.
Puff Daddy spent a good part of this year defending himself after a shooting in a club in Manhattan left three people seriously injured. He and two other members of his "possey"
defended themselves against the charges. One of his proteges and a close friend named "Shyne" was convicted of shooting three people and was sentenced to prison. Puffy Daddy and the other member of his "possey" were found innocent. Not long after his acquital that he began to ask everyone to call him P. Diddy. Just before his trial began, "Puffy" was dumped by long time girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez. The two never got back together, even after his acquital.
