- Story Text: Pro-Russian rebels in the eastern-Ukrainian city of Slaviansk vowed to continue fighting government forces on Tuesday (May 6) after heavy losses they suffered the previous day.
"The People's Militia of Donbass will never surrender. We will fight to the very end. None of the guys from militia planned to leave and will not leave. We will fight to the end. The very name of the town of Slaviansk speaks for itself - Slavs. And Slavs do not surrender," said Dmitry who together with his comrades was guarding the railway station at the access road to Slaviansk.
More than 30 pro-Russian separatists were killed in fighting near the rebel stronghold of Slaviansk in eastern Ukraine, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said on Tuesday.
"We estimate that the terrorists lost more than 30 people," Avakov wrote on Facebook.
Pro-Russian rebels ambushed Ukrainian forces on Monday (May 5), triggering fierce fighting near Slaviansk. Avakov said four Ukrainian servicemen had been killed, and 20 were wounded. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
