- Story Text: Satirical effigies of U.S. President Donald Trump among other household names went on display Thursday (March 16) for Spain's Fallas festival where they will be set alight in the port city of Valencia.
Made of materials like wood, plaster and paper mache, months of painstaking work go into constructing the "ninots," Valencian for dolls, some reaching soaring heights only to be burned to the ground in an explosive finale on Sunday (March 19).
The annual tradition marks the change of seasons with a five-day fiesta of street dancing and fireworks commemorating Saint Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters.
Hundreds of sculptures are scattered across the city for the public to behold and vote on their favourite with only two saved from the bonfire joining a select number of ninots at the local Fallas Museum. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
