- Story Text: "The Incredible Hulk" film stars Edward Norton and Liv Tyler impressed over a thousand Japanese fans by showing their Japanese skills at a film premiere event on Tuesday (July 29) in Tokyo.
"What's up? Thanks to all my friends in Osaka!" Norton, who used to live in Japan 18 years ago, greeted the fans in Japanese.
Looking at her bilingual costar, Tyler, who's been to Japan five times, jokingly asked Norton not to showoff his language skills.
"No, I can say, 'Konnichiwa' 'I'm Liv Tyler'. Not very good," said Tyler when she was asked to speak Japanese.
A bigger, meaner "The Incredible Hulk" crushed the competition at North American weekend box office with a 54.5 million USD take, but still fell short of its predecessor, according to studio estimates.
The action-oriented film revival starring the hulking green superhero is only the second self-financed production from Marvel Studios, which paid General Electric Co's Universal Pictures a fee to market and distribute the film.
Marvel and Universal brought the first "Hulk" to theaters in 2003, but that more introspective version failed to follow through on its muscular 62 million USD debut after disappointing comic book fans. Its ticket sales fell quickly and the movie ended its run with 137 million USD at domestic box offices.
The new film stars Norton as former scientist Bruce Banner, who morphs into the green beast when his attempts at anger management fail. Banner's love interest is played by Tyler.
The film heroine and her husband, British rocker Royston Langdon, have separated in May after five years of marriage, according to a report in People magazine.
Tyler, 30, who is the daughter of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, is best known for her role as the elf princess Arwen in the "The Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy.
Tyler and Langdon, 36, of the now defunct band Spacehog, were married in a private ceremony at a villa in the Caribbean in 2003. Their son, Milo, was born in December 2004.
