- Story Text: Football fans in Toyko stayed up until the early hours of Thursday morning (July 14) to watch Japan beat Sweden 3-1 in the women's World Cup semi final in Germany.
The result put Japan into Sunday's (July 17) final against the USA.
One fan told Reuters that the performance of Japan's women at the football World Cup was inspirational.
"Although Japan is suffering the earthquake disaster, I think we've just sent out a message to the world that we'll never
give up and we'll unite to overcome the difficulties," Taku Banda said.
While the USA will be favourites to win the final, these fans had a message for them.
"We've been waiting for you, America! It will be 2-0 Japan win," said Schie Kojima. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
