- Date: 14th February 2011
- Summary: BERLIN, GERMANY (FEBRUARY 11,2011) (REUTERS) (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR OF "TRUE GRIT", JOSH BROLIN, SAYING: "She (the girl's character) hasn't experienced that thing in life yet where you can't do that. She doesn't have that kind of fear yet and rightly so. If we could all live with that mentality all the time, it would be great. I am sure we would get a lot more accomplished. It's nice, it's nice. And she's like that anyway, Hailee (Steinfeld). I mean the fact that she came on a set with all these guys" (LAUGHS) "I wouldn't want to do that, you know. All these guys have been doing this for a while, supposedly gruff guys and she just came on and just blew everybody away. That made us nervous.") (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR OF "TRUE GRIT", JEFF BRIDGES, IN ANSWER TO A QUESTION ABOUT THE OSCAR NOMINATIONS, SAYING: "Oh, that's pretty exciting and wonderful to be recognized and to get a nomination from the people who do what you do. That feels wonderful. And also it is a chance to, you know, herald a movie that you are so pleased with. I love the movie and so I want to get as many people to come and see it as can be. The awards are a chance to do that."

- Story Text: Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges is looking forward to more Academy Awards with his latest project "True Grit" being nominated for ten oscars.
"That's pretty exciting and wonderful to be recognized and to get a nomination from the people who do what you do", Bridges told Reuters at the Berlin film festival - the Berlinale - on Friday (February 11).
The Coen brothers' Western remake "True Grit" is already out in North America and therefore is not eligible for prizes at the Berlin festival, but it certainly brought a taste of Hollywood glamour to the opening ceremony on Thursday (February 10).
The film tells the story of a young girl's quest to track down her father's killer and stars Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin.
Bridges, in the role of the one-eyed Rooster Cogburn, said that he initially wondered why the Coens planned a remake of the 1969 movie version, for which John Wayne won a best actor Oscar.
"But once I read the book, I understood what they were talking about, because the book reads like a Coen brothers script: wild characters, surprising plot twists", Bridges said, adding, "And so with that kind of double barrel, the Coen brothers and that wonderful material, they got me to the party."
Bridges said he was intrigued by Charles Portis' original novel "True Grit".
"There is so many interesting kind of subtext going on, that really aren't involved so much with the plot, but a taste kind of lingers with it, you know, when you start to think about the relationships. And that particular richness is what I love about the movie. But again it's something I don't want to talk about too much," he said.
14-year-old child star Hailee Steinfeld has been nominated for an Oscar for her role of vengeful Mattie Ross in 'True Grit'.
Josh Brolin who starred in the Coen brothers' oscar success "No country for old men", plays the bad guy. He said he was surprised by the young actress' energy.
"I mean the fact that she came on a set with all these guys, I wouldn't want to do that, you know. All these guys have been doing this for a while, supposedly gruff guys and she just came on and just blew everybody away. That made us nervous," he told Reuters TV.
The 61st Berlin festival boasts its trademark mix of familiar faces and up-and-coming film makers, and, as usual, real world concerns are never far from the surface. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
