- Story Text: Madonna fans were treated to some of her classics and new songs at the opening night of her "Confessions" tour in Los Angeles, California on Sunday (May 21).
The material girl started the show with her next single "Future Lovers" off of her "Confessions on a Dance Floor" album while standing in a one and a half ton disco ball rocket ship at The Forum.
Never one to shy from controversy, Madonna suggestively rode a mechanical bull during her performance of her 1980's hit "Like A Virgin", and was tied to a large metal cross and wore a ring of thorns on her head for her performance of "Live To Tell". The Great Western Forum is owned by the Faithful Central Bible Church.
The opening of Madonna's tour comes less then 10 months after the singer broke eight bones in a horse ridding accident at her home in London, England in August 2005.
Horses played strong theme in the tour and fans can see Madonna's broken bones displayed on video screens during the "Like a Virgin" performance via x-rays and MRI's.
Devotees of the disco diva say that her longevity is what keeps them coming back for more even at 350 U.S. dollars a ticket.
"She has just been around forever we grew up with her. She is our idol. We want to be just like her," said Jason Black a Madonna fan from Los Angeles.
"She just rocks no matter what she does and people fade away but she has not faded. She just does what she wants and that is it. People love her," Estelle told Reuters.
"Who can draw this crowd? I mean three hundred and fifty bucks (350 USD) come on I mean I had to sell my car to afford these tickets," said Fred Douglas.
This the 47-year old singers' seventh tour was outfitted by her long time friend Jean Paul Gaultier who was responsible for the cone-breasted bustier from the 'Blonde Ambition' tour.
Madonna's music career spans more then two decades having sold over 200 million albums worldwide, her most recent CD "Confessions On A Dance Floor" debuted at Number one in 29 countries and has sold over 5 million copies. The singer won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Eva Perone in "Evita". The "Confessions" tour will continue for two months in North America, then resume on July 30 in Wales for a five-week stadium swing through eight European cities. Shows in Japan are also scheduled for mid-September. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
