I think that he had to do something. It was horrible what they did to their own people. Enough is enough. When innocents are being slaughtered in such a brutal fashion, America cannot stand idly by." - Story Text:New Yorkers said on Friday (April 7) that they supported the U.S. air strike on a Syrian airbase, saying U.S. President Donald Trump "did the right thing."
In a sharp escalation of the U.S. military role in Syria, two U.S. warships fired dozens of cruise missiles from the eastern Mediterranean Sea at the airbase controlled by President Bashar al-Assad's forces in response to the poison gas attack in a rebel-held area on Tuesday (April 4).
"I think that his hands were tied. I think that he had to do something," said passer-by Paula Romano in New York. "It was horrible what they did to their own people. It's really devastating, all those children, all those people, innocent people, and the way that they died, how tragic, how they suffered. It was heartbreaking, seriously. So although I'm not a Trump fan in general I think that he did the right thing."
Trump ordered the strikes just a day after he pointed the finger at Assad for this week's chemical attack, which killed at least 70 people, many of them children, in the Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun. The Syrian government has denied it was behind the attack. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
