- Story Text: Iraq's Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki met with the country's Kurdish president Jalal Talabani on Monday (May 3) to discuss the next government's formation.
Iraqi politics has been at much of a standstill since the March 7 election took weeks to tally, before accusations of vote rigging have ensured a further delay in finalising results so negotiations for government formations begin in earnest.
"God willing, the meeting was fruitful as it would help solve all problems and hardships facing the political process. It (the meeting) is a step on the path of accelerating the formation of the next government," said Maliki.
Maliki's State of the Law bloc trails former prime minister Iyad Allawi's secular Iraqiya bloc by two seats. Both fall short of securing a majority to govern. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
