- Story Text: Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn arrived at a Paris police station on Thursday (September 29) for a face-to-face confrontation with writer Tristane Banon, who accuses him of trying to rape her when she interviewed him for a book in an empty flat in the capital nearly a decade ago.
Extra security was laid on outside the police station to keep a heavy media contingent away from both plaintiff and defendent away from the cameras.
Face-to-face confrontations between plaintiff and defendent are a regular feature in criminal investigations in France and do not imply innnocence or guilt. Strauss Kahn vehemently denies any wrongdoing but Banon has repeated her allegations with increasing force.
Strauss-Kahn arrived in a vehicle as news media strained to get a shot of the former presidential frontrunner whose hopes were dashed when he was arrested in New York last May.
A Manhattan court dropped criminal charges against Strauss Kahn last month after the prosecution said his accuser was an unreliable witness. Strauss Kahn promptly returned to France. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
