- Story Text: Barcelona's controversial new signing Luis Suarez promised on Tuesday (August 19) that he would not repeat the biting episode that lead to his ban from the pitch.
The Uruguayan is still banned for biting Giorgio Chiellini in Uruguay's World Cup game with Italy on June 24. The striker was initially banned from all football activities for four months, but an appeal hearing last week allowed him to train with Barca and play friendlies.
Speaking at a press conference at his unveiling, Suarez promised there would be no repeat of the incident.
"I say, I try to forgot this game, the situation as well. It's a difficult moment for me and I say to all the fans there don't worry for that because I don't do it anymore that and I know in the football every time the media or something criticise you or myself and...It's not matter for me and I try to forget about that," he said.
Suarez, who cost Barcelona a reported 81 million euros ($108m) from Liverpool, will not be allowed to play a competitive game for his new club until after his ban ends at the end of October.
Barcelona's first season without silverware in six years has led to the arrival of Luis Enrique as coach. Suarez headed the list of reinforcements on the pitch.
