- Story Text: Hundreds of members of the Comoros community in Paris took to the streets of the French capital on Sunday (July 5) to mourn the death of 152 passengers of on board the Yemenia Airbus A310-300 that crashed into deep water off the Indian Ocean archipelago of Comoros.
66 of the flight passengers were of French nationals.
Protesters voiced their anger regarding the airline security standards and the way it was treating the victims families.
"It is important to be here to support the families of the victims. We are disgusted by what has happened. And as for Yemenia, they should stop mocking people by proposing 20,000 euros (17,114 pounds), it is nothing for the Comorans," said protester Youssouf Moinaecha.
"There is a problem with the safety, with communication, and of respect. The Yemenia airline is only humiliating the Comoran passengers" added protester Moustapha Abdou Raouf.
The Paris protest followed Saturday's demonstration in Marseille which gathered up to 30,000 members of the Comoran community living in France.
The plane from Yemen with 153 people on board crashed into the sea off the Indian Ocean archipelago of Comoros as it approached in bad weather last Tuesday (June 30).
It was coming in to land at Moroni, the Comoran capital, on the final leg of a trip from Paris and Marseille to Comoros via Yemen.
The only survivor, a 14-year-old girl, was plucked from rough seas on Tuesday after clinging to wreckage.
The cause of the crash is still unknown but French authorities have confirmed the black boxes were spotted on the sea bed off the Comoros. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
