- Story Text: With their frizzy manes and oversized mohair bathrobe coats, the supermodels looked like they had just rolled out of bed for the Chloe ready-to-wear show by German designer Karl Lagerfeld in Paris on Thursday (March 16).
Often hailed as an initiator of new fads, Lagerfeld was on the tail end of the retro trend. His 1950s flea-market suits in drab colours had loose, ample shoulders and swelling hips, with waistlines cinched over bubble skirts to the knee.
The show was a pot pourri of unflattering styles: angora hot pants with high satin spike-heeled boots, dark ribbed knit tube dresses and bauble-embroidered fuzzy shawls.
The season's penchant for knits showed in little bolero tops and midriff baring shrunken jumpers or layers in different lengths over satin slip dresses.
Also on the catwalk, knitted hot pants in smooth or mohair textures.
Double breasted boxy jackets were teamed with full long skirts but there were long lean jackets too over calf length narrow skirts.
Loose shifts in swirling prints on satin were tied below the bust or on the hips by narrow shoelace belts.
There were more shifts in silk crepe for evening worn over voile pleated wide trousers that reflected the continuing interest in transparency.
