- Story Text: German band "Kraftwerk" have combined music and art for decades and reached international cult status with their minimalist sound and daring stage choreography.
Forty years after the release of their "Autobahn" album in 1974, Kraftwerk is back with a series of eight concerts to present one of their records each night at Berlin's New National Gallery, the Neue Nationalgalerie.
The art museum, built in the 1960s by renowned architect Mies van der Rohe, is now closed to the public and will undergo extensive renovation work for several years.
Tuesday night's concert was also a tribute to the popular Neue Nationalgalerie and it wasn't the first time the band from Duesseldorf had performed in a museum.
Kraftwerk performed hits such as "Autobahn," "Radioaktivitaet" and "Wir sind die Roboter."
Of the band's original members, only Ralf Huetter remains. Co-founder Florian Schneider left the band several years ago. Huetter is now supported by Fritz Hilpert, Henning Schmitz and Falk Grieffenhagen.
Their fans, many of whom have been following Kraftwerk for decades, were ecstatic.
"Fantastic, listening to this wonderful music in this holy place was great," Annette Weber said.
Andreas Foelsch said after the concert "it was amazing, fantastic and incredible. It was great to see the idols of my youth live on stage."
"I was close to tears when they played 'model.' It was great," said Foelsch. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
