- Story Text: Nominations for the 10th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards were announced today and Calle 13, the alternative Puerto Rican hip-hop duo leads the list with 5 nominations, while Brazilian star Caetano Veloso and alternative Mexican band Cafe Tacvba were among the diverse acts with multiple mentions.
Calle 13 was nominated in the key categories of album of the year ("Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo") and record of the year, ("No Hay Nadie Como Tu" with Cafe Tacvba).
The duo's album and song also yielded nominations for best urban music album and alternative song. Additionally, the group was nominated for shortform music video ("La Perla" with Ruben Blades).
Other record of the year contenders were Luis Fonsi with Aleks Syntek, Noel Schajris and David Bisbal for "Aqui Estoy Yo".
"Obviously a nomination, in this case two nominations for the Latin Grammy. It's a blessing, I am very happy, honestly," said Fonsi. "It has been a year when we have worked really hard and wonderful things have happened."
Other acts with three nominations each included Brazil's Ivan Lins & The Metropole Orchestra; musician/producer Jose Lugo; songwriter Jorge Luis Piloto; Brazilian star Ivete Sangalo; Puerto Rican salsa veteran Gilberto Santa Rosa; and Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin y Yandel.
Lins will also compete for album of the year, with "Regencia: Vince Mendoza," alongside Colombia 's Andres Cepeda for "Dia Tras Dia," Nicaragua 's Luis Enrique for "Ciclos," and Argentina 's Mercedes Sosa for "Cantora 1."
The Lins album was also nominated for best MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), and his song "Arlequim Desconhecido" is up for record of the year.
The other song nominees were Claudia Brant, Luis Fonsi and Gen Reuben for "Aqui Estoy Yo" (performed by Fonsi with Syntek, Schajris and Bisbal), Bebe and Carlos Jean for "Me Fui" (performed by Bebe), and Argentine musician Alejandro Lerner for his "Verte Sonreir."
The best new artist nominees were Mexican singer/songwriter Alexander Acha, Colombian hip-hop group Chocquibtown, Claudio Corsi, Spanish flamenco artist India Martinez and Mexican-American singer Luz Rios.
