- Story Text: Stars hit the red carpet at the 55th annual Grammy awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 10). This year's carpet was a much more upbeat affair than last year, when artists were reeling with the unexpected death of Whitney Houston the day before. Many were giddy just to be invited to the Recording Academy's biggest night.
Belgian-Australian musician Gotye had a big night, picking up several awards including Record of the Year. On the red carpet before the show, he said he was humbled to be nominated.
"I've never been here before. I've only watched the awards on television once last year. So I'm very intrigued to see what it feels like," said Gotye.
Fellow Australians Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman are both big supporters of the musician.
"I was trying to get him to come along and sing with me but wasn't in Australia," said Urban. "I'm thrilled he won."
Carly Rae Jepsen, of "Call Me Maybe" fame said she was still in shock for being nominated.
"I can only explain it by sort of my reaction when I actually found out, which was a full-fledged "kitchen dance," said Jepsen. "I was so full of joy. It was a unexpected and amazing."
Ziggy Marley, who performed during the live telecast, said the opportunity to play on such a big stage is always positive, especially for genres like reggae.
"It's a great opportunity for us to show our art to the world. So we're happy to do that," said Marley.
