- Story Text: INTRO: Former Russian security chief Alexander Lebed completes a five-day trip to Germany, visiting a former Nazi concentration camp.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Lebed visited Dachau in southern Germany on Saturday (January 18), the last stop in a private visit during which he has met a number of German politicians and business leaders.
Lebed, accompanied by his wife, toured the camp museum and Russian chapel in the camp grounds.
The former security chief was sacked by Russian President Boris Yeltsin, only a few months after being appointed to the Kremlin's powerful national security post last year. Yeltsin said the charismatic general was too ambitious.
Lebed met parliamentary faction leaders and foreign policy experts in Bonn on Wednesday and Thursday, but was not received by the German Chancellor Helmut Kohl or other members of the ruling coalition government.
Lebed also adressed German industrialists in Bonn and Dusseldorf on Thursday before going on to meet the Bavarian state premier Edmund Stoiber in Munich on Friday (January 17).
