- Story Text: Demonstrations were held all over the world on Thursday (11 September) to mark the anniversary of the coup which overthrew the left wing President Allende in Chile.
In Rome several thousand left wing supporters gathered in the Basilica di Massenzio. The crowd was addressed by several political refugees from Chile
The speakers said the United States' Government was involved in the overthrow of President All???de and supported the present military junta in Chile.
One of the refugees, Maurizio Ferrara accused the present Chilean military leaders of carrying out mass arrests and torturing political prisoners.
Mr. Ferrara added that the U.S. would suffer the same fate in South America that it had experienced in South Vietnam, and declared "President Allende did not die in vain."
