- Story Text: Juan Pablo Montoya believes that holding the United
States' Grand Prix this weekend in Indianapolis shows
solidarity with the American people following the loss of over
6,000 lives in the attacks on New York and Washington DC.
The Colombian gained his first victory in Formula One
at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza on September 16, but the
success was overshadowed by the attacks which took place in
the USA just five days before the race.
This Sunday (September 30), the penultimate round of the
Formula One championship will be held in Indianapolis despite
opposition from many quarters, but Montoya maintained it was
the right decision to go ahead.
"Well I think it has been a very difficult situation for
everybody," he said. "I think coming to America shows we are
supporting the Americans 100 per cent. I think to come here
and race is something good because it's going to give the
Americans something else to think about and some joy about the
race and the sport and everything."
Practice for the Grand Prix begins on Friday (September
28).
