- Story Text: A group of masked fighters vowed to unleash suicide
bombers, whilst people in the town of Falluja surveyed the
damage of a U.S airstrike.
In a video tape released on Tuesday (6 July), a
group of masked fighters blamed the occupation of Iraq on
a number of former exiles who returned to Iraq after the
fall of Baghdad in April last year. They vowed to sacrifice
themselves for Saddam and Iraq. Elsewhere in Iraq, people
in Falluja surveyed the damage done to the city by an
American airstrike, and a bomb in Mamoudiay exploded
damaging a Shi'ite shrine.
An amateur videotape receive by Reuters showed four
masked men, identifying themselves as Brigades of Iraq's
Fidayeen or Saddam's Fidayeen carrying weapons and stripped
with belts of bullets with one carrying a rocket-propelled
grenades launcher, while one of them reading a statement.
"Saddam did not bring the Americans and the occupation to
Iraq but they are brought by those who came on board of
U.S. tanks such as Ahmed al-Chalabi, Salim al-Chalabi and
their followers of traitors," one of the four masked
fighters said in the statement.
Ahmed al-Chalabi, head of the Iraqi National Congress
Party was once supported by the Americans, but has since
fallen out of favour. Salim al-Chalabi is the head of the
court trying Saddam for crimes against humanity and against
the Iraqi people.
The group said they were ready to sacrifice themselves
for Saddam, whom they say is the symbol of Iraq, warning
that they will kill staff of television satellite channels
working in Iraq, if their reporters dare to insult Saddam.
"The coming days will see how we sacrifice ourselves for
him (Saddam) and Iraq will remain a symbol of Jihad (holy
war) in the sake of God. We warn satellite television
channels not to insult the symbol of Iraq, President Saddam
Hussein and we will kill employees of these channels in
Iraq if they dare to insult the symbol of Iraq."
They called for the same court that tries Saddam to try
the U.S. President George W. Bush and Israel's Prime
Minister Ariel Sharon for their crimes.
Meanwhile, the U.S. planes bombed a house in the restive
town of Falluja on Monday, reducing it to rubble.
Clothes were scattered in the site as child toys
spattered with blood were among the rubble of twisted metal
and damaged bricks.
Five people were killed when the U.S. planes fired,
residents said.
U.S. forces have launched a series of air strikes in the
town to destroy what they describe as safehouses used by
the network of Jordanian-born militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
It was not immediately possible to verify the cause of
Monday's blast and the U.S. military was not immediately
available for comment.
The United States has raised a reward offer for the
capture of Zarqawi, its top guerrilla target in Iraq, to
$25 million from $10 million. Washington accuses Zarqawi of
having links to the al Qaeda network of Osama bin Laden.
The U.S. military says foreign fighters behind a string
of attacks in Iraq are hiding out in Falluja and has vowed
to attack Zarqawi's network "whenever and wherever" it can.
Meantime, an explosion destroyed a Shi'ite shrine in
Mahmoudiya city south of Baghdad.
Residents said that unidentified people planted four
bombs inside the Shrine of Imam Faraj Allah Bin Mousa
al-Kadhim in the city before detonating it. They said that
two of the shrine's guards were wounded in the explosion.
