Furthermore, the Body also decided to prohibit the French club from using the Parc des Princes for its next three home fixtures in UEFA club competitions. These matches will have to be staged at a venue situated at a distance of at least 300 kilometers from Paris. The Control and Disciplinary Body also imposed a fine of 200,000 Swiss francs on Galatasaray, given the Turkish club's lack of co-operation in controlling their fans also involved in the crowd disturbances. Both clubs may lodge an appeal against the decision, provided it is received by midnight on Saturday (March 24)." 7. JOURNALIST SPEAKING TO MICHAEL LEE 8. - Story Text: UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body decided on
Wednesday to impose a fine of a million Swiss francs (586,500
U.S. dollars) on Paris Saint-Germain after violence between
fans during the UEFA Champions League match against
Galatasaray. UEFA also imposed a 200,000 Swiss franc (117,000
U.S. dollar) fine on the Turkish team.
The Paris club was banned from its Parc des Princes
ground for three European matches by UEFA on Wednesday (March
21) as a penalty for the incidents of crowd violence at last
week's Champions League game against Galatasaray.
UEFA communications director Michael Lee read out a
statement explaining the decision and stating that the fine
had been imposed on Galatasaray "given the Turkish club's lack
of cooperation in controlling their fans" during the match on
March 13,
PSG's next three European games will have to be played at
least 300 kilometres from Paris. That would leave grounds at
Lyon and Nantes as possible alternatives.
Trouble flared during half-time during the game. French
and Turkish supporters lobbed missiles at each other and tried
to break security fences in the stands. The match was stopped
by referee Vitor Manuel Melo Pereira after two spectators
wearing Galatasaray colours ran on to the pitch.
The two clubs have until midnight on Saturday to appeal
the UEFA control and disciplinary board's decisions.
Galatasaray lost the group B match 2-0 but had already
qualified for the quarter-finals. PSG were eliminated from the
competition before the game.
