- Story Text: Baghdad's hospitals are struggling to cope with the
increased number of sick and injured children since the start
of the war.
The number of children being brought into hospital has
drastically increased since the war and on Wednesday (April
16) the hallways at Saddam Infant Hospital in Baghdad were
full.
Many children were hurt in bombing raids, but those
suffering from lose ordinance injuries or poor health
conditions are also being brought in as families begin to feel
safe to leave their homes.
Until recently, many families were too scared to go to
hospital.
Now a lack of nurses and doctors means families and
friends are having to help look after the children
One doctor who remains, blamed the war for the current
medical crisis.
"I'm very busy now, I can't tell anything. But I just want
to say something. It's a very, very, very bad situation for
patients in our country and this is because of the war. Not
for liberated, just for occupy our country," she said.
A heavy troop presence currently remains outside the
hospital to secure the site and prevent looters.
