- Story Text: A red army of Michael Schumacher fans descended on the
Hockenheim circuit to see the qualifying session for Sunday's
German Grand Prix.
The world champion didn't let his supporters down,
setting the fastest time to take pole position for the race,
in which he will be hot favourite.
The German has never won his home race in a Ferrari or
triumphed at Hockenheim since 1995, when he was at Benetton.
He had never been fastest in qualifying there either in a
career of 47 poles.
Schumacher retained his world championship with victory in
his Ferrari at last week's French Grand Prix at Magny Cours.
He will line up on the grid for Sunday's (July 28) race
alongside his brother Ralf, who was second fastest in
qualifying for Williams.
The bright sunshine and Schumacher's championship victory
gave the qualifying session a party-feel in the crowd and
among the busiest retail outlets at the circuit were the
Ferrari stand and the bars.
