- Story Text: France, the World and European champions, have been
preparing in their training camp at Clairefontaine for the
friendly international against England on Saturday (September
2).
The match will mark the final appearance for his country
for French captain Didier Deschamps. The 31-year-old midfielder
announced his retirement from international football earlier
this week. The match against England will be his 103rd cap.
Deschamps will be joined by Laurent Blanc, the 34-year-old
Inter Milan defender, in bidding farewell to the French crowd
this weekend.
For France both players might represent a huge loss to the
finest team in their history. But they still have a squad packed
with talent and orchestrated by the brilliant Zinedine Zidane.
The team trained in the afternoon of Thursday (August 31).
Earlier in the day they were feted by French President Jacques
Chirac at an official reception and lunch.
