- Story Text: G8 protestors arrive in Edinburgh ahead of world
summit.
Campaigners demanding an end to global poverty were
arriving in Edinburgh on Friday (July 1) for demonstrations
ahead of the G8 summit.
Global leaders will be meeting at Gleneagles, near the
Scottish capital, from Wednesday (July 6) to discuss issues
including debt relief and climate change.
At least 20 trains have been chartered from London and
among protestors arriving on Fiday were Germans and
Norwegians.
One Norwegian demonstrator commented: "It's actually
very important that we are as many as we can be and that we
give a really, really good strong impression that we want
to change the world and we want to get rid of poverty, yes,
but they are the ones that are creating poverty and they
need to be told that we don't need them."
Concerts are also being held around the world under the
slogan Live 8 and as part of the Make Poverty History
campaign.
