- Story Text: Russians evacuated from Iraq arrive back in Moscow.
Some 85 Russian nationals evacuated from Iraq
arrived in Moscow on Thursday (May 27), aboard a flight
organised by Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The flight was organised after two engineers from a
Russian company and two Iraqis were killed when their bus
was attacked as it left Baghdad's Dora power station on
Wednesday (May 26). Five other employees of Russia's
Interenergoservis company were wounded.
Despite Moscow's vocal opposition to the U.S.
occupation, Russians working on Iraqi power stations have
been targeted more than once. One was killed and two
kidnapped earlier this month.
Coffins carrying the bodies of the two engineers killed
were flown back to Moscow's Zhukovsky airport aboard
Thursday's evacuation flight, along with some of those
injured in the attack.
Two more evacuation flights are planned for Friday
(May 28), set to bring back another 150 specialists working
for Interenergoservis in Iraq.
