- Story Text: Hundreds gather in Jerusalem for the funeral of U.S. doctor
and his daughter, killed on Tuesday in a suicide
bomb attack.
Hundreds of people on Wednesday (September 10)
attended the funeral of Dr. David Appelbaum and his daugter
Navah who were killed in a suicide bomb attack in a
Jerusalem cafe on Tuesday (September 9).
Appelbaum, the head of Shaare Zedek Medical Center's
emergency room in Jerusalem, had returned from New York the
night before after a lecture tour on the readiness of
hospitals in Israel to cope with bomb attacks.
Appelbaum was dining with his daughter who was
preparing for her wedding night scheduled for Wednesday
when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at the
Hillel cafe in Jewish west Jerusalem, killing seven people.
The attack came just over five hours after a bombing
killed six people at a bus stop outside a military base
near Tel Aviv, dealing two shattering blows to a collapsing
U.S.-backed peace plan.
