- Story Text: INTRO: Israel has warned that the concluding statement of the Arab summit in Cairo may be harmful to advancing Middle East peace.
--------------------------------------------------------------- The Israeli Foreign Minister, David Levy, said on Sunday (June 23) that the statement issued by the Arab nations following their summit in Cairo may harm the peace process.
"Certainly on first glance there are things which are serious, contradictory to the atmosphere necessary for continuing to achieve peace. We will study the announcement in all its aspects and react today," he told reporters.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, leader of the right-wing Likud party whose election last month prompted Arab leaders to call the Cairo summit, their first in six years.
"There are things that border on conditions... But until we have studied this deeply I do not want to officially relate to this now," said Levy, who is widely seen as a moderate in the government. He did not go into details.
Levy was speaking to reporters after a meeting with a Tunisian delegation at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
