- Story Text: The Israeli army on Thursday (May 28) demolished the house of a Palestinian from the Gaza Strip, who was arrested for stabbing a Jewish settler to death on Wednesday (May 27).
Soldiers drove bulldozers into the Deir al Balah camp to flatten the house; Israel has a policy of demolishing the homes of Palestinians involved in attacks on Jews.
Faisal Husseini, leader of the Palestinian negotiating team at Middle East talks, told reporters that international forces should take responsibility for shielding Palestinians from attacks.
The Gaza Strip remained closed off from Israel on Thursday (May 28) under an army order which will be extended to May 31 because of recent violent incidents in the Israeli-occupied territories and inside Israel.
Thousands of residents in Bat Yam marched on Thursday (May 28) to protest against the killing of a fifteen year-old girl on Sunday (May 24).
Arabs have been beaten, and shops attacked by hundreds of Jews on the streets of Bat Yam, and police have clashed with residents who have started fires and thrown rocks and bottles at the security forces.
The father of the murdered girl, Ze'ev Rapp, said he was sorry about the rioting and he called on the people of Bat Yam to ensure Thursday's protest was peaceful. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
