- Story Text: The European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, said on Saturday (February 1) that international economical and political support was needed in order to reach an agreement in the Israeli-Palestinian authorities peace process. Speaking at a news conference at the Munich Security Conference, Ashton said "we recognise that reaching agreement requires bravery and it will probably require compromise."
Speaking after the meeting of the Middle East quartet, which she chaired, she said that it was important to show a strong and solid agreement, "so that the international community is willing to back and support it, not just with words, important how they are, but also with the kind of support that will be needed."
The Middle East quartet meeting was also attended by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, and the Quartet Special Representative Tony Blair. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
