- Story Text: One thousand Jewish torah students blew ram horns on Tuesday (June 28) in a Kabbalah ritual calling for the matchmaking of hundreds of singles at a tomb in northern Israel.
Tradition has it that single men and women in search for a spouse can pray at the tomb of Rabbi Yonatan Ben Uziel in Amuka, near the city of Safed, a city known as the centre of Kabbalah, also known as Jewish mysticism.
Twenty-eight-year-old Shiran Fasi, says that she came to the ceremony in order to find her soul mate.
"I came to find a match made in heaven, and may God show me the way to find him," she told Reuters Television.
Hundreds of women were seen taking part of the ceremony and praying, some for themselves, and others, for their loved ones.
"I came here to receive blessings so that my children will be well, so that they would find their matches, to blow the ram's horn, to pray and to enjoy it," said mother of three, Angel Gadon.
For the first time in over a hundred years, one thousand students from a nearby college for Jewish studies blew the ram horns and called out the names of the thousands of singles who signed up.
Thousands of Kabbalic believers from around the world believe that praying over the tomb of Rabbi Ben Uziel, who is believed to have died single, has special supernatural qualities that will bless those hoping to find a spouse. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
