- Story Text: Diane von Furstenberg unveiled her collection for Fall 2011 on Sunday (February 13), paying tribute to 'American Legends'.
Describing her muse as 'fearless', von Furstenberg said she was inspired by the woman who 'knows who she is' and 'who she wants to be.'
"We were attracted by the same kind of, those American legendary women like Diana Vreeland or Gloria Vanderbilt, Millicent Rogers and so we went there. You know? We went into their strength, the fact that they're a little bit pioneer, that they traveled, that they're eccentric. They're muses but they're also artists," von Furstenberg told Reuters Television backstage before her show.
Models took the runway in the designer's signature pattern prints including a native hound silk jersey gaucho jumpsuit, and a peppermint fur coat with a clover crepe top and evergreen wool gaucho pants.
Jewel embellishments were also part of the collection with one model wearing a black crepe dress with shamrock-style jewels. Evening wear looks included a gold sparkler dress, a blue and gold chiffon gown and a blue sequin chiffon gown.
Wearing sunglasses to hide her injury after a skiing accident earlier this winter, Furstenberg spoke of her New Year's resolution to expand her fashion empire into China.
"First of all, I've always loved China," Furstenberg explained.
"As Europeans it's very much part of our schooling, the Chinese civilization. So I was always attracted by that and I was always attracted by the silk road... and the Chinese waters, spices and they brought us silk and they brought us all of that. So it was always very mysterious and beautiful. But China has changed, you know? And now China is also a big consumer and so it's a great challenge and Chinese women are beautiful, so it's a pleasure to dress them," Furstenberg continued.
