- Story Text: Chinese New Year was celebrated in Vancouver on Sunday (February 14) in the shadow of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
More than 10,000 people filled the streets to celebrate the Year of the Tiger and watch the annual parade.
Chinese immigrants, who first came to Canada in 1788 with British explorers, have a thriving history in Canada. Currently, four out of every 10 residents of Vancouver is ethnic Chinese.
The celebrations were filled with traditional dragons and dancers as well as Canadian flags and chants of "Go Canada."
The Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year between late January to mid-February, falling on the second new moon after the winter solstice. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
