We've had, let's see -- we've had a wrestler, we've had an action star, we've had an actor, who's also been a spokesperson. A comic brings a certain amount of honesty -- you may have a two drink minimum at the state of the Union, so that's the drill -- but, you could do worse as they say. You can have a guy, I mean, there are a lot of great comics, Al Franken may run, and probably win in Minnesota." Since rehab I don't drink and it's a lot nicer because I can remember things, and it's just nice, it's really lovely to be out there and meet such honest people. That's been the wonderful thing." - Story Text: Robin Williams attended the premiere of his new movie "Man of the Year" in Los Angeles on Wednesday (October 4, 2006) his first film to come out since he left rehab earlier this year. The film, which also stars Laura Linney and Jeff Goldblum, is about a comedian who, as part of a publicity stunt, announces his candidacy for president of the United States and eventually wins the election. Williams, flanked by his wife and children, was on hand at the Grauman's Chinese Theater premiere to share his view on where a comic fits in to the political spectrum.
"Why not? We've had, let's see -- we've had a wrestler, we've had an action star, we've had an actor, who's also been a spokesperson. A comic brings a certain amount of honesty -- you may have a two drink minimum at the state of the Union, so that's the drill -- but, you could do worse as they say. You can have a guy, I mean, there are a lot of great comics, Al Franken may run, and probably win in Minnesota," he said.
The premiere was one of few public appearances Williams has made since leaving rehab in September. The academy-award winning star entered Oregon's Hazeldon Springbrook Clinic in August of 2006 to help curb his drinking habit that resurfaced after twenty years of sobriety.
"It's wonderful. Since rehab I don't drink and it's a lot nicer because I can remember things, and it's just nice, it's really lovely to be out there and meet such honest people. That's been the wonderful thing," says actor Robin Williams.
