- Story Text: The Las Vegas 'Walk of Stars' honoured magicians Siegfried & Roy's career and their role in revolutionizing Las Vegas entertainment with the presentation of a star on Tuesday (October 3).
The ceremony was held in front of the Siegfried & Roy statue at The Mirage hotel, Siegfried & Roy's entertainment home for more than 13 years.
Animal trainer and magician Roy Horn is still recovering from a near-fatal tiger attack in October of 2003.
"Life is good," Horn told reporters and fans gathered at the ceremony.
"If you can let me talk too," Siegfried Fischbacher quipped.
"No. No, you want to ruin everything. Well I have to tell you, thirty years ago we came here and the community of Las Vegas welcomed us with open arms, and now they've... even though Germany is our spiritual homeland, but Las Vegas is our base, and we'll always stay here. I'm not done yet. I feel good enough to do a show again," he added.
Having performed in Las Vegas for more than three decades, Siegfried & Roy established box office records for the city. The duo, originally from Germany, have been heralded around the world for expanding the population of the Royal White Tigers and White Lions a key part of their act.
"Boy boy boy, what time, what years we have gone through, most exciting and darkness, but we went through it together, and you stick together with us, and that was unbelievable," said Siegfried Fischbacher.
Roy Horn almost died when his 600-pound (273 kg) male white tiger grabbed him by the neck and dragged him off stage during a performance as partner Siegfried Fischbacher and a stunned audience watched on. Their long-running show at the MGM-Mirage was permanently closed soon after.
"Thank you very much for everything that has happened and has been done. Thank you very much for our fans, especially from home...."
"... we live here but our home will always be Germany," the duo said after the Las Vegas ceremony.
The Las Vegas Walk of Stars was developed in cooperation with Clark County, which sanctioned four miles of sidewalk to the East and West of Las Vegas Boulevard South. The project honours people of prominence in a variety of fields including entertainment, sports, literary, humanitarian, civic, military and pioneers. Each star is a three feet square slab of polished granite weighing 180 lbs and is inlaid with the recipient's name and speciality. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
