- Story Text: Extra security measures were underway in the German capital, causing traffic jams and wide no-go areas outside the Adlon Hotel where President Obama will be staying later on Wednesday (November 16).
Police set up security tents near the British Embassy and had extra security cordons around the U.S. Embassy.
Drivers had been warned on the radio to avoid the area around the Brandenburg Gate, with police even removing chained bicycles from the area.
Manholes were sealed and police checked hotel rooms in the Adlon.
Obama arrives in Berlin on Wednesday evening as part of his farewell tour of Europe.
On Friday (November 18) the president is due to meet with various European heads of state in the German capital. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
