- Story Text: Italian security agencies began stepping into gear on Monday (June 2) as the first heads of state began arriving for the summit on food at the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
Over 40 heads of states and government will attend the meeting in Rome scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday as the leaders seek to tackle the problem of increasing food prices and look to find ways to produce more food to sustain a growing world population.
Most leaders attending the summit have faced growing tension in their own countries as prices of food sky rockets leading to social unrest.
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer was one of the first delegates to arrive on Monday morning.
Schafer's arrival was followed by Argentinian President Cristina Kirchner. Kirchner is currently battling with farmers who have called a stop to selling grain for export in a deepening row over export taxes. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
