- Story Text: Former eventing world champion Zara Phillips has been withdrawn from Britain's Olympic eventing team because of an injury to her horse, the British Olympic Association (BOA) said on Wednesday (June 11).
Phillips, 27, the 2006 world champion and a grand-daughter of Queen Elizabeth II, pulled out after her horse Toytown sustained an injury during training.
She was set to ride Toytown as part of a five-member squad at what would have been her first Olympics.
Phillips, whose father Mark Phillips won three-day eventing gold at the Munich Games in 1972, was also unable to compete in the 2004 Olympics in Athens because of an injury to Toytown.
On Monday (June 9) Phillips trained in front of the cameras and posed for pictures alongside her teammates in Gloucestershire.
The three-day eventing is being staged in Hong Kong from Aug 9-12.
The BOA said a replacement rider and horse combination would be announced shortly after a nomination from the British Equestrian Federation. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
