- Story Text: Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho on Friday (February 17) said the club's aim is to win La Liga and not to look for records or "chants of glory", arguing that it is impossible to be declared champions before they visit archivals Barcelona at Nou Camp.
Real host third-from-bottom Racing Santander on Saturday and a win would put them 13 points clear of Barca, who welcome third-placed Valencia on Sunday.
Responding to some media reports about Real Madrid's position, Mourinho told a news conference on Friday: "I would like to win the championship tomorrow, but it´s not possible and I think it´s impossible to do so before going to Nou Camp. And as I said a couple of weeks ago, the same people who try to create difficult situations for us when we are in a less favourable situation are the ones that speak rubbish like this."
He also referred to recent reports about his emotional state, saying: "Some weeks ago I wasn´t out of control, I was emotionally in control at a difficult time and I continue to be emotionally controlled. I think this is the line you have to follow. We don´t look for records, we don´t look for chants of glory, we don´t look for red carpets or other rubbish that is talked about. We simply try to win the next match."
Mourinho said Real could not afford to be complacent about Barcelona, in spite of their 10-point lead.
"It´s a good situation for us and a difficult one for them. So it seems obvious and logical, but we have a lot of games left, difficult matches, every match is difficult, I don´t tire of repeating this because we feel difficulties in every match. And I think Barcelona is a team that can unleash a streak of 10 winning matches," he said.
The Portuguese coach said Real would be counting on Angel Di Maria for Saturday's match at home to Racing (1900GMT). The Argentina winger, who has made 13 assists in the league this season, has been struggling with a thigh problem and has not played since the turn of the year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
