- Summary: NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (FEBRUARY 22, 2012) (REUTERS-ACCESS ALL) KNICKS' POINT GUARD JEREMY LIN WARMING UP WITH TEAM BEFORE THE GAME VARIOUS OF LIN AND TEAM WARMING UP FAN HOLDING SIGN THAT READS "CHILLLIN" VARIOUS OF LIN TAKING JUMPSHOTS KNICKS HEAD COACH MIKE D'ANTONI SPEAKING TO PRESS AFTER GAME (SOUNDBITE) (English) MIKE D'ANTONI, HEAD COACH, KNICKS, SAYING: "He, he can do that, you know, I was never worried about, and I was telling him before the game, he's got to be Carmelo Anthony, attack. Go. You get the ball, go. Do your thing. You don't have to fit in. What's fitting in? What does that mean? I don't even know what that means. Jeremy will orchestrate the ball. He's got it. He knows where to go over here, go over there. Sometimes it will be out of bounds. We'll look at the film and we'll get it back in bounds, but he can't think in his mind, 'okay, I've got to give up this part.' No. He's got to play and Amar'es got to play and Jeremy's got to sort it out. And then as a team, we've got to sort it out when things go bad. And we will lose. And things will go bad, but if everybody has that mentality, 'I'm gonna attack and this is my space. I've got no problem. I either take a great shot or pass the ball,' then we could be good 'cause there's a lot of talent out there." MEDIA AT PRESS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (English) JEREMY LIN, KNICKS POINT GUARD, SAYING: "Yeah, I think Melo among others, but definitely him has given me a ton of advice, just on and off the court, everything, you know, there was an off-day he was giving me advice, texting me advice, so he's definitely kind of taken me under his wing. And in terms of the match-up, you know, I'm, obviously LeBron is a great player and a great, great defender, so you know, I just got to be aggressive, continue to not change anything on my end." LIN TALKING TO REPORTERS (SOUNDBITE) (English) JEREMY LIN, KNICKS POINT GUARD, SAYING: "What we're thinking about is, we want to build momentum going into the All-Star break and we want to make a push after the All-Star break, and I think this is an opportunity to build momentum. It's a big game, don't get me wrong. We're playing a great team and it's going to be a good evaluation of where we're at, so from that end obviously we're excited and ready for the challenge, but you know, besides, that we're just going to try to stay consistent." - Story Text: The Knicks may have pulled off a 99-82 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday (February 22), but the New York team will soon be put to the test against the red hot Miami Heat.
The Knicks, who were energized this month by the emergence of Jeremy Lin as point guard, are working to blend in All-Star forward, Carmelo Anthony and guard Baron Davis back into the line-up following injuries along with newly signed swingman J.R. Smith.
Lin and Anthony appeared to be in synch against the Hawks, with Lin scoring 17 points and Anthony 15.
Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said he gave simple advice to Anthony when returning to the game, where Lin had become the team's rising star in his absence.
"He's got to be Carmelo Anthony, attack. Go. You get the ball, go. Do your thing. You don't have to fit in," D'Antoni said in a news conference following the game.
"Jeremy will orchestrate the ball. He's got it. He knows where to go."
Before the Knicks get to the post All-Star game stretch that allows for practice time, Lin says Thursday's game against LeBron James and the Miami Heat will be a test of the team's capabilities.
"LeBron is a great player and a great, great defender, so you know, I just got to be aggressive, continue to not change anything on my end," Lin said.
Lin added the team was hoping to build momentum going into the All-Star break. "I think this is an opportunity to build momentum. It's a big game, don't get me wrong. We're playing a great team and it's going to be a good evaluation of where we're at, so from that end obviously we're excited and ready for the challenge, but you know, besides, that we're just going to try to stay consistent" Lin told reporters.
