- Date: 22nd October 2016
- Summary: SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (OCTOBER 21, 2016) (REUTERS) JAY KAPLAN, CO-FOUNDER AND CEO OF SECURITY COMPANY SYNACK, WALKING (SOUNDBITE) (English) JAY KAPLAN, CO-FOUNDER AND CEO OF SECURITY COMPANY SYNACK, SAYING: "So what's really unique in this situation is that the attackers are actually leveraging vulnerable devices that people are putting all over their homes all over the world to launch these distributed attacks. Being that these devices are so prevalent in millions and millions of households, and the manufacturers are not necessarily locking these devices down, it makes it really easy for an attacker to take advantage of those vulnerabilities, put implants on them and when they're ready, basically, they leverage those same devices that they put implants, malware, viruses, whatever you really want to call it to launch this attack on one particular website or company or piece of technology. In this instance they're going after an internet service provider that is utilized by a number of large companies all around the United States, specifically on the East Coast. And as a result of that, they've been able to take down not even just that internet service provider, but all the companies that actually leverage it."
