In the first parliamentary confidence vote we will show our frontal rejection of the People's Party politics, so the Socialist Parliamentary group will vote no to Mariano Rajoy's first investment vote. The second point is: with the aim of developing the contents of this resolution and to unblock the institutional exceptional situation that the country is suffering, the Socialist Parliamentary group will abstain in the second round of the parliamentary confidence vote." They can't do it because there is an imperative order of the Federal Committee. That's what I will try, I truly hope them to be receptive because that's the best for all socialists." - Story Text: Spain's conservative leader Mariano Rajoy was on course to secure a second term in power for his People's Party (PP) on Sunday (October 23) after his Socialist rivals agreed to abstain in a looming confidence vote, ending 10 months of political deadlock.
The chairman of the Socialist party interim management, Javier Fernandez, said in a news conference that the Parliamentary group will vote against Rajoy on the first investment vote but will change it for an abstention on the second vote.
"In the first parliamentary confidence vote we will show our frontal rejection of the People's Party politics, so the Socialist Parliamentary group will vote no to Mariano Rajoy's first investment vote. The second point is: with the aim of developing the contents of this resolution and to unblock the institutional exceptional situation that the country is suffering, the Socialist Parliamentary group will abstain in the second round of the parliamentary confidence vote," Fernandez said.
Spain has been stuck in political limbo following national elections in December and June which left no single party with a majority, paralysing institutions and threatening to derail an economic recovery. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
