About four years ago I brought the idea to my partner, HBO was really interested. They felt that this was a story that a lot of people could relate to, but first we needed writers. And we were fortunate enough to have Paul Simms and Sharon Horgan. And I think it's just very compelling to me because I think human beings and relationships are interesting. And the more complex, the more interested I am and the more curious I am to watch people sort it out. Whether they do it well or whether they're a mess is endlessly interesting to me." - Story Text: Actress, Sarah Jessica Parker returned to the small screen for the first time since "Sex and the City" in a new HBO show, "Divorce."
The star celebrated the dark comedy on the blue carpet in New York on Tuesday (October 4) with the cast.
Parker plays a middle-aged mother who decides to make a shift in her life by divorcing her husband, played by actor, Thomas Haden Church.
The actress said she has always been interested in this subject and approached HBO with the idea four years ago.
"They felt that this was a story that a lot of people could relate to," said Parker.
"I think it's just very compelling to me because I think human beings and relationships are interesting. And the more complex, the more interested I am and the more curious I am to watch people sort it out. Whether they do it well or whether they're a mess is endlessly interesting to me," said Parker who is also an executive producer on the show.
Church said the characters are human and flawed, which will make audiences both like and dislike them.
"I think it's ok if you like and dislike both of us. Just try to peel down the middle and that's probably - that's a fair assessment I think," he said.
A mini 'Sex and the City' reunion took place on the carpet with former cast mates Cynthia Nixon and Mario Cantone attending the premiere. When asked if a third film was in the works, Parker didn't say no.
"I don't know, it's not something that we've had real - come together to have real substantive conversations. But I described it as being not on the table but in the warming drawer."
