- Story Text:Russian opposition leader Ilya Yashin presented a report on Tuesday (August 30) saying that the ruling United Russia party is involved in corruption and organised crime.
The report's presentation took place three weeks before Russia's parliamentary elections, expected to bring victory for the pro-Kremlin party.
"The aim of my report is to inform Russian society that again and again under the disguise of the respected ruling party which is using patriotic, nationally-oriented rhetoric, representatives of organised crime groups and alliances, embezzlers, people involved in corruption and murderers come to power," said Yashin.
"Our main goal at these elections is to ensure that the United Russia party gets less votes than at previous elections, " he added.
Despite an economic crisis, the main pro-Kremlin United Russia party is expected to comfortably win the elections, which are seen as a dry run for Vladimir Putin's presidential re-election campaign in 2018.
The crisis means United Russia's margin of victory may be slimmer than in the past. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
